Design and Building Integration

Growing Power’s agricultural systems are integrated insofar as its diverse operations—from soil production to crop cultivation to aquaponics—benefit and rely on each other for nutrients and growing media. These low-tech systems are in most cases, however, not integrated with greenhouse building systems. Exceptions include the rainwater harvesting system and the use of excess heat from composting piles to heat hoop houses. Growing Power’s proposed vertical farm on the Milwaukee headquarters site, developed in collaboration with Kubala Washatko Architects, will provide possibilities to experiment with sophisticated, extensive building and systems integration.
